Senses is a motion graphics piece.
The challenge here was to convey the five senses in a video, each of them with their own visual language, with a unified theme overall.
The lines representing sight are derived from the term "line of sight". Besides creating a visual pun, the way the lines are animated in directions lead the viewers eyes emphasizing the "sight" aspect.
Another visual pun, the waves that are used in hearing are from the term "sound waves".
The square is the most "solid" of the basic shapes and is the most appropriate for the sense of touch. Touch provides provides presence to objects in the real world and so this section features "realistic" object-object interaction. Objects knock and bounce into each other.
Odours and aroma waft through the air, until they enter our nose and our brain interprets it. The floating animation is meant to evoke the idea of scents (if you could see them). The circle is the "softest" of the basic shapes, having no points, and so it felt appropriate to use it.
Taste is a really difficult one to pin down. The morphing polygon seemed to best represent its quirkiness.
